Positive Daily Affirmations

By Positive Daily Affirmations

What Are Positive Daily Affirmations?

Affirmations are positive thoughts or statements about some outcome you wish to achieve, such as wealth, success, or health. Instead of negative self-talk, you can use positive daily affirmations to direct what your focus will be. You can conquer your past and present fears, and enjoy your present or create the future by affirmation. Affirmations redirect your values, help formulate goals, or prepare you for situations, whenever or wherever they may occur.

You can say your positive daily affirmations silently or aloud to yourself. Repetition of affirmations will also counteract negative thoughts that may stream through your mind, automatically sometimes. You may write affirmations on a card carried in your pocket, taped to a mirror, or placed where it is always visible to you. Repeat your positive affirmations at intervals throughout your day, to reinforce the positive belief and to maintain a positive state of mind.

It takes constant practice to focus on an affirming thought. Initially, you may not find it easy to hear the affirmation above the internal noise of negative thoughts and feelings. Given enough time, however, you can change most of the basic ideas about yourself by positive daily affirmations.

How To Develop Your Own Postive Daily Affirmations?

Self-developed affirmations (the ones you compose yourself) are the most effective positive daily affirmations. If you couple them with clearly defined written goals and applied faith, their power is unlimited.

To be truly effective, you must write your own affirmations and believe in them; they must have a profound impact on you emotionally. Your firm belief that what you are affirming is possible is crucial, because once you start believing that something is possible, it becomes probable. Without that firm belief, further repetition of your affirmations will just be futile. An affirmation should be a belief in yourself. The desires and dreams that your mind can conceive bear seeds of possibility, and possibilities ultimately become realities.

Without that firm belief, further repetition of your affirmations will just be futile. An affirmation should be a belief in yourself. The desires and dreams that your mind can conceive bear seeds of possibility, and possibilities ultimately become realities.

The emotional dimension of each affirmation should never be overlooked. When you can actually feel your affirmation, not just utter or read them, their total impact increases immensely. The written affirmations (thus your goals) must ignite an emotional reaction in you, else they simply fall flat.

You should state your positive daily affirmations in the present tense, that is, use “I am…” rather than “I will be…” Saying things in the present tense will program your subconscious mind to believe that what you affirm is already fact. When the subconscious believes that, it will start arranging for bringing what you affirm to you. In other words, the subconscious will drive you to perform the actions needed to live out what you affirm; and, acting thus, you will create the circumstances that make them actually happen for you.

Another important guideline in formulating your affirmations is to write them in the positive state. Many people have the tendency to write affirmations in the negative state ? which immediately defeats the purpose and the effectiveness of the affirmation. Affirmations written from the negative perspective will never work.

When you convince yourself not to follow certain behaviour, you only bring yourself from the negative to neutral, but there is no movement forward to the positive. When you underscore the positive, you automatically start from a positive note, and you naturally shift your mind-set to forward-looking, positive thinking.

Additional Considerations For Positive Daily Affirmations

1. Because your experience will create the conditions that allow affirmations to manifest, word the affirmations carefully to make them crystal-clear. State your real, innermost desires and articulate your most expansive sense of self. Affirmations based on a narrow self-concept deliver results that fall short, cause suffering, and further diminish the sense of self.

2. Be deliberate in your affirmations. Spontaneous thoughts voiced out in an intense emotional state may produce undesirable effects, so consider many possible alternatives before choosing the affirmation to silently intone. Silent affirmations are more effective than spoken statements, because they entail more intensity of concentration and resonate through your entire body instead of in your surroundings.

3. Link your affirmations to actual daily actions to lay the ground for their manifestation. For instance, affirming that you will win the lottery can only be set in motion when you play in it.

4. Find a way to make it easy for you to do positive daily affirmations. You may find that it is not a habit for you to make these statements on a regular basis. To circumvent this problem, I have been using Subliminal Power, a software that sits on my PC, flashing out subliminal affirmations subtlely as I work. I figured this to be a better solution for me than using an audio, since I am on the PC more often and am not in the habit of listening to a music CD.

You can of course, choose to do a screensaver, using powerpoint slides, with all your positive affirmations in there. This is how my husband does his, on his laptop.

However, I feel that the effect is different. My affirmations get flashed unobstructively on my screen as I work, whereas my husband only gets to see his list of affirmations when he is not on his keyboard for a couple of minutes.

Positive Affirmations at the Dinner Table

By Sue Kirchner

Now that school has started, so have all of the after school activities, which means it’s harder and harder to get the family to sit down and eat together.

However, now more than ever it’s important to get the kids to sit and talk with you about their day – who their new friends are, which subjects they like most, or where they need help with their homework.

Families who spend quality time around the table talking and interacting have more well-adjusted children, no matter what age they are.

Trust me, I know it’s hard for busy families to schedule quality time together but you have 21 chances a week to sit down to eat and interact as a family. Hopefully, you can find at least 4 or 5 times a week to keep the family connected. To help accomplish that, read my post How to Get the Family to the Dinner Table.

However, just because you are all sitting around a table together, it doesn’t mean you are connecting. You have to engage beyond just grilling everyone about their day. Here are some ideas on how to make family dinnertime more fun so everyone looks forward to this time together and feels more comfortable talking.

1. Dancin’ in the Kitchen. To keep things lively, we like to crank the dance tunes and dance or sing while we cook, set the table and clean up. Grooving some calories away before and after dinner is good for the heart. Take turns picking the tunes.

2. Choose or Lose. Another way to have some fun at dinnertime is to let the kids choose the entire meal on certain nights. I let them choose an entree, side dish, veggie and fruit for the meal. That way I am teaching them to include all of the food groups when they plan a meal. They might choose some interesting items that you wouldn’t normally eat together but that’s what makes it fun.

3. Conversation Games. Sometimes you are just tired or at a loss for a dinner table topic. That’s why we keep some conversation starter cards near the dinner table. There are quite a few conversation games out there but we like the Family Dinner Box of Questions and Chat Pack for Kids the best. You can also write up some of your own questions ahead of time. It’s a fun way to get the conversation started and learn something new about each of your family members.

4. Positive Affirmations. When we have had a bad day or the kids have been fighting a lot, I like to play the positive affirmations game at the dinner table. We go around the table and say what we like most about the other family members. It forces us to focus on the positives and it is a small ego-boost for everyone. We all leave the dinner table in a much better mood.

5. Opposite Night. The kids love it when we have breakfast food at dinner time. So grab those breakfast and brunch recipe favorites and surprise the family. Or, eat dessert first one night to really throw them off balance.

Affirmations for the Other Side of the Mirror

By Patricia Biesen

When I was asked to contribute a post to Kidfirmations I felt a bit overwhelmed. Then I thought if I could go back in time what would I like to tell my childhood self. How would I encourage that girl experiencing a growth disorder known as Precocious Puberty (a.k.a. Precocious Adolescence or Early Puberty)? Precocious Puberty means having the signs of puberty (development of breasts, testes, pubic and underarm hair; menstrual bleeding; and increased growth rate) earlier than usual. Precocious puberty is puberty that starts before age 8 in a girl or 9 in a boy.

I reached adult height by the second grade. I was told I was “too big” for dolls, swings and all the things that make being a kid fun. I also have more European features and curly hair, which contributed to even more name-calling and being defined as “different”. All I ever wanted was to be normal and of course “pretty”. If given the chance to go back in time these are the affirmations that I would tell my childhood self overwhelmed by a situation she could not change:

I was created because I am so very needed and wanted in this world.
A beautiful butterfly has to start as a caterpillar. I appreciate every part of my journey.
I love every part of my body.
It is safe for me to stand out.
I am unique just like everyone else!
As I love my body, my body loves me back.
If we are all different there is no such thing as normal. Being different is normal!
You only have to look at a snowflake in winter or a springtime flower to appreciate nature’s differences.
What my body is experiencing is right and natural.
It’s good to be original – in fact it is GREAT!
I appreciate what is good about this situation right now.
I have the support of God and the angels.
I am filled with so much love that I can even love those kids who make fun of me, as we are one. We all have exquisite reasons for doing what we do.
It is safe for me to walk and stand tall.
Anytime I feel sad I will sing a happy song, paint something wonderful or do any activity that makes me happy.
Today is a new day that I create just as I want it to be.
I love seeing myself grow up and change.
I trust that all is well in my world.
I nurture my talents and the things I love to do.
As I love myself more I create a world where I am loved more and more each day.
I am beautiful just as I am!!
And so it is!

The Mind of a Child

By Ethan Beh

Practicing affirmations for kids are even more important than for adults. Practicing self affirmations has been known to help adults immensely. Theoretically the effects of practicing affirmations should be even greater for children. This is because kids have not gone through all the conditioning and brainwashing that adults gradually go through in their life.

The mind of a child is more open and accepting of ideas and suggestions. Just like a cup gets filled by water, as a person grows older their mind is gradually filled with experiences and conditioning by the environment. For kids, their cup is quite empty. Anything that is suggested to them gets sucked in and accepted quite quickly.

Because of this, a child can either quickly accept positive empowering messages, or negative disempowering ones. There can be serious consequences if we are not careful with what ideas and messages we consistently feed to our child.

Affirmations are typically less effective for adults (in the short term) because adults have been conditioned throughout the years to adopt certain beliefs and thinking. The longer something has been in place, the harder it is to change and replace it.

Not to say that nothing can be done about that, there are ways to break off these conditioning. However as they say, prevention is better than cure.

So practicing affirmations prevents the cup of a child’s mind from being filled with disempowering beliefs. Consistent practice of affirmations will change a child’s thought process, from negative to positive.

For younger children, make practicing affirmations a daily activity which both parent and child can participate together. Young kids love spending time with parents and will enjoy themselves at the same time.

Affirmations for Kids

I understand the lessons taught in school

I enjoy learning and gaining new knowledge

Learning is fun and exciting

I am proud of being unique (useful for kids who feel different from other kids around them)

I learn and improve from my mistakes

I believe in myself and my abilities

Setbacks will only make me stronger

I am smart and I have great ideas

I am talented and gifted in my own way

Final Thoughts

Regardless of age, explain to kids what are affirmations and why are they doing it. Belief plays a very important role in the effectiveness of affirmations. If you believe that it won’t work and is a total waste of time, that is the exact result that you will get.

Give your kids happiness and confidence to face the world by teaching them affirmations. It is a priceless gift.
